Answer-Led Growth: Our Five-Pillar Method

Answer-Led Growth is our method for scoring and fixing a company’s growth footprint. It starts where many buyers now start: the answer an AI engine or search engine gives. Then it follows the buyer through five pillars: Visibility, Acquisition, Conversion, Retention and Measurement. A free Growth Scan scores each pillar from 0 to 100.

Definition: Answer-Led Growth is a growth method that treats the AI answer as the first touchpoint and checks every step after it, from the first click to the repeat purchase.

Why start with the answer?

Because the answer now decides who gets considered.

If the answer does not name you, the rest of the funnel never starts. If it does, every later step has to hold. A buyer who reads your name in ChatGPT, clicks through, and finds a slow pricing page is lost twice: once to the competitor, once to a tracking gap that hides why.

What are the five pillars?

Pillar The question it answers Growth Scan modules
Visibility Do search and AI engines find, name and cite you? AI Visibility, Agent Readiness, SEO Technical, Content and Entity, Citation Gap, Mentions and Reddit, plus Local and Listings or App Store where they apply
Acquisition Are you reaching buyers through paid and social channels? Ad Footprint, Social Footprint, Paid Keyword Presence
Conversion Does a visit turn into a signup or a sale? CRO Heuristics, Landing Page, Pricing Page, Checkout and Signup Flow
Retention Do customers hear from you and come back? Lifecycle Signals, Review and Community
Measurement Can you trust your numbers and your email? Tracking and Tag Health, Tech Stack, Email Authentication, Privacy and Consent

How does the Growth Scan map to each pillar?

One input, a domain, runs every public-footprint module. Every check returns a finding with a verdict (Pass, Warn or Fail), the evidence and a fix with an effort label.

Visibility. We check whether AI crawlers can reach you, whether ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity name you for 10 category prompts, and which competitors they name instead. Each prompt runs three times per engine because answers vary. The background is in generative engine optimization, agent readiness and how AI citations work.

Acquisition. We look up your live ads in the Meta Ad Library and the Google Ads Transparency Center: how many, which formats, which landing pages, and how long the oldest has run. A two-year-old ad still running is a fatigue signal. We also check your social profiles for posting cadence and consistent names, bios and links.

Conversion. We check whether the value proposition is visible without scrolling, whether there is one primary call to action, how many form fields stand between a visitor and a signup, and how fast pages load. Google’s Core Web Vitals targets are LCP within 2.5 seconds, INP of 200 milliseconds or less and CLS of 0.1 or less.

Retention. We subscribe to your newsletter with a scan address and grade the first three emails: how fast the welcome arrives, how personal it is and whether it lands in the inbox. We check that the unsubscribe link works. We also check review platforms and whether you reply.

Measurement. We check that GA4, Google Tag Manager and ad pixels are present, not duplicated and gated on consent. We check SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Since February 1, 2024, Google has required DMARC for anyone sending more than 5,000 messages a day to Gmail accounts. A missing record can quietly cost you the inbox.

How is the Growth Score calculated?

Each module turns its findings into a 0 to 100 module score. Module scores roll up into five pillar scores, each 0 to 100. The pillar scores combine into the Growth Score, also 0 to 100, shown with a five-pillar radar. Fails on access and tracking weigh more than cosmetic issues, because they break everything downstream.

What the scan cannot see

The public scan reads what anyone can see. It cannot see your Search Console data, GA4 conversion paths, CRM or ad account settings until you connect them. AI answers change between runs and between weeks, so a Visibility score is a snapshot with a stated range. We say so on every report.

What we check in the Growth Scan

One headline check per pillar:

Pillar Check Pass Warn Fail
Visibility Brand mentioned for category prompts Named by 3 or 4 of 4 engines Named by 1 or 2 Named by none
Acquisition Oldest running ad (fatigue proxy) Under 90 days 90 to 365 days Over 365 days
Conversion Value proposition visible above the fold Clear headline and primary CTA on first screen, mobile and desktop Present on desktop only Missing
Retention Welcome email arrives Within 10 minutes Within 24 hours Never arrives
Measurement DMARC policy Policy set to quarantine or reject Policy set to none No DMARC record

Typical fixes: add a DMARC record (30 min), rotate ad creative (1 week), rewrite the hero section (1 day), set up a welcome email (2 hours).

Questions

What is Answer-Led Growth?
Answer-Led Growth is our method for scoring and fixing a company's growth footprint. It starts with the answer a buyer gets from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews, then follows that buyer through five pillars: Visibility, Acquisition, Conversion, Retention and Measurement. Each pillar gets a 0 to 100 score. The fixes are ranked by impact and labeled by effort.
How is this different from an SEO audit?
An SEO audit covers one channel. Answer-Led Growth covers the whole path from the first answer to the repeat purchase. SEO checks sit inside the Visibility pillar, next to AI visibility and crawler access. The other four pillars cover ads, landing and pricing pages, lifecycle email, reviews, tracking tags and email authentication. One weak pillar can waste the work done on the others.
What do I need to run a Growth Scan?
A domain. The public-footprint scan needs no login and no access to your accounts. It reads what anyone can see: your pages, robots.txt, tags, DNS records, live ads in public ad libraries and how AI engines answer category prompts. Connecting Search Console, GA4 or ad accounts adds deeper checks later. You choose what to connect.
Is the Growth Scan free?
Yes. The free Growth Scan returns your Growth Score, a score for each of the five pillars and the top fixes per pillar. An audit is our separate, paid product: a human-reviewed written report with a fix plan. You do not need one to act on the scan results. Most fixes come with an effort label.
Do you guarantee results?
No. We do not guarantee rankings, citations or revenue. We report what we checked, what we found, what it usually takes to fix and what each engine said on the date we asked. AI answers vary between runs, so we run each prompt three times and show the range. The fixes are concrete. The outcomes depend on your market.
